Airbnb Will Launch an AI Travel Agent in the First Half of 2027
Airbnb's AI travel agent arrives in the first half of 2027. How its custom interface differs from a chatbot and what it will handle during a trip.

Airbnb plans to release its own AI travel agent in the first half of 2027, the company said in its Q3 2026 shareholder letter. The agent will help guests plan and book trips inside the Airbnb app, and it will build a custom screen for each request instead of answering in a chat window.
Airbnb had talked about an agent before. The letter is the first time it has committed to a launch window, according to TechCrunch.
An interface built around each question
Airbnb says a standard chatbot is the wrong tool for planning a trip. Its agent will draw on a library of hundreds of travel-specific interface pieces, including maps, photos, comparisons, calendars and itineraries, and assemble them in real time to fit what the guest asked.
CEO Brian Chesky told analysts on the earnings call that the result will feel “a little bit like generative UI,” a term for software that creates its layout on the fly. He described text-heavy chat as a poor way to plan travel.
According to the company, the agent will let guests browse options, make choices together with the people they travel with, and act directly in Airbnb. Over time, Airbnb wants it to cover a whole trip in one place, across homes, services and experiences. TechCrunch reports that hotels are part of that plan too.
Why Airbnb is building its own agent
Chesky argued that general-purpose AI agents handle simple jobs, such as booking a restaurant table or setting an appointment, and that trip planning is a different kind of task. He named Muse and Instinct as examples of such agents. On the call he cited a figure that 80% of travelers enjoy spending time researching trips, and said people want to look at photos, compare homes and decide with their companions.
Airbnb also points to its existing role in each booking. Because it already handles payments, changes, refunds, rebooking and 24-hour safety support, the company says its agent can help during a trip in ways an outside agent cannot easily match. It also cites nearly 20 years of matching hosts and guests as input for how the agent is built.
What it means for Airbnb users
As Airbnb describes it, trip planning in the app moves away from a search box and list of results toward screens that change with each question. The agent is meant to stay useful after booking, for tasks like changing a reservation or sorting out a payment problem.
The agent follows a run of AI tools Airbnb added this year, according to GSMArena: search in plain language, AI filters, AI-written listing descriptions and side-by-side AI comparisons of homes saved to a wishlist. AI also runs parts of its customer support.
The company has not given a specific launch date, pricing details or a list of countries for the agent.
The earnings behind the announcement
The news came with Airbnb’s third-quarter results. Revenue grew 19% to $4.87 billion, beating Wall Street estimates, TechCrunch reported. Airbnb also raised its 2026 growth forecast to the high teens from the mid-teens.
Chesky said Q3 was the company’s fastest revenue growth in more than three years. In the shareholder letter, Airbnb called AI “the best thing to ever happen to Airbnb” and said it has changed how the company builds products and operates, according to The Verge.
