Most big tech brands offer student pricing: Apple discounts Macs and iPads through its Education Store, Samsung, Dell, HP and Lenovo run education stores for laptops and phones, many schools give you Microsoft 365 for free, and services like Amazon Prime and Spotify have half-price-style student plans. You’ll usually need to verify through a school email or a service such as UNiDAYS, SheerID, ID.me or Student Beans.

Discount sizes and rules change often, sometimes mid-semester. The details below describe how each program generally works as of October 2026; always confirm the current terms on the company’s own page before you buy.

Apple education pricing

Apple’s Education Store offers lower prices on Macs and iPads year-round, plus discounted AppleCare. In the US it’s open to college students (including people accepted into a program), parents buying for a college student, and faculty and staff at all levels, including K-12 teachers. K-12 students themselves generally aren’t eligible.

Every summer Apple also runs a back-to-school offer that adds a gift card or accessory deal on eligible Macs and iPads. In 2026 the US offer started in mid-July and was extended into late September, with gift card amounts that varied by product. Some products were excluded, so read the fine print. Reports from 2026 say Apple tightened verification, so expect to confirm your status through a service like UNiDAYS rather than just entering a school email.

Samsung Education Offers

Samsung’s US education program gives eligible students, teachers and staff access to discounted pricing on Galaxy phones, tablets, laptops, watches, earbuds and some home electronics. You sign up with a school email or verify your identity at checkout. Discounts vary by product and often stack with Samsung’s regular promotions or trade-in offers, and the biggest savings tend to appear during back-to-school campaigns.

Microsoft 365 for students

Many colleges and schools license Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams and OneDrive) for students at no cost. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 website with your school email to see what’s included; some school plans include only the web apps, while others include desktop apps you can install on your own devices.

When you graduate or leave, access ends after a grace period and the apps drop to reduced functionality, so move your files to a personal account before then. Microsoft also runs occasional student promotions on its consumer plans, so check Microsoft’s education pages.

Dell, HP and Lenovo

Windows laptop makers run student or education stores with discounts on top of, or instead of, regular sale prices:

  • Dell typically offers a percentage off for verified students, often with limits on the number of purchases per year.
  • HP runs an Education Store that shows discounted pricing after you register with an academic email.
  • Lenovo has an education store with student pricing, usually after verification through a service such as ID.me.

Compare the education price with the regular sale price. During big events like Black Friday, a public sale can beat the student discount, and some stores don’t let you combine them. Our guide on how to choose a laptop covers which specs matter for coursework.

Prime, Spotify and other subscriptions

Amazon Prime offers a student and young-adult membership (marketed as Prime for Young Adults) with a six-month free trial, then about half the cost of regular Prime. Students qualify for up to four years while they remain enrolled, and adults aged 18 to 24 can join through age verification.

Spotify Premium Student costs much less than the Individual plan, and in the US it has bundled the ad-supported Hulu plan. You re-verify every 12 months, and Spotify limits how many years you can stay on the plan.

Other services, including some streaming, news and software subscriptions, have student tiers too. If you’re juggling several, see how to lower your streaming bill.

Tips to get the most from student pricing

  1. Time it with back-to-school. Education discounts plus seasonal promotions usually peak from July to September. See our best time to buy tech calendar.
  2. Keep your school email active and accessible; most programs verify through it.
  3. Check refurbished stores too. A refurbished Mac or laptop with full warranty can cost less than a new one with an education discount.
  4. Read purchase limits. Many programs cap how many of each product you can buy per year.
  5. Don’t share or sell verification. Programs can cancel orders and memberships if eligibility is misrepresented.

Bottom line

If you’re a college student, never pay full price for a laptop, tablet or major subscription without first checking the brand’s education store and student plan. Verify your status early, compare the student price with any public sale, and time big purchases for back-to-school season when you can.
