Apple Intelligence Reaches China With iOS 27.3 Beta Testing Set for November 4
Apple says Apple Intelligence testing in China starts November 4 in the next iOS beta, with a December release. Siri AI is not included and Qwen powers some features.

Apple has confirmed that Apple Intelligence is coming to China. According to a press release on the company’s Chinese newsroom website, testing begins on November 4 in the next iOS developer beta, and the public launch follows in December with the official release of iOS 27.3. It is an unusual move for Apple to say when a developer beta is expected, and it ends a long wait that involved regulators and several delays.
What the date does and does not mean
Apple has confirmed November 4 as the start of Apple Intelligence testing in China. It has not said that this is necessarily the day iOS 27.3 beta 1 itself will arrive. Normally Apple releases the first beta of its next update soon after the previous version ships, and iOS 27.2 came out last Monday, so the confirmation is welcome.
What users in China will get
The launch does not include Siri AI, the newer assistant that is available elsewhere. Instead, Apple is offering an improved Siri experience with Type to Siri, plus access to Alibaba’s Qwen chatbot for certain requests. Qwen also extends to Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence, which lets people ask questions about photos and documents, including PDFs and presentations, and generate original content from scratch. Users reach Qwen by signing in to their accounts or with Sign in with Apple.
Other features in the first rollout include:
- Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime and Phone
- Genmoji and Clean Up in Photos
- Natural-language photo searches
- Priority notifications, notification summaries and Smart Reply
Image Playground is among the features that will not be available at the start.
Which devices and settings are supported
The first rollout is for the iPhone only. Other devices, such as the iPad and Mac, will come after Apple receives the necessary regulatory approvals. Supported phones are the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone 16 and later, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo. Both Siri and the device language must be set to English or Simplified Chinese.
Why it matters
For people in China, this finally brings Apple’s built-in writing, photo and translation tools to their iPhones, powered in part by a local partner. For everyone else, the story is a reminder that features can differ by country. Apple Intelligence was approved in China in July, and Apple trained its own language model specifically for China, according to a Reuters report cited by The Verge.
If you are in China and own a supported iPhone, do not expect to find these features on November 4 unless you join the developer beta. Most people should wait for the public iOS 27.3 release in December, when beta software is not needed. Check that Siri and your device language match the supported options before you try to turn anything on.
What is still unknown
Apple has not said when Siri AI might reach China, or when the iPad, Mac and other devices will be supported. The company did say that four more languages, including Traditional Chinese, would get Siri AI support by the end of the year, though that does not change what is planned for China in this release.
