Walmart Cuts Garmin Fenix E 47mm to $400, Half Its $800 List Price
Walmart is selling the Garmin Fenix E 47mm for $400, 50% off its $800 list price. What the watch tracks, what it lacks and who the deal suits.
The Garmin Fenix E in its 47mm size has dropped to $400 at Walmart, according to Android Police. Garmin lists the same watch at $800 on its own website, so the Walmart price is 50% below retail.
That puts one of Garmin’s outdoor and fitness watches at a price closer to mainstream smartwatches. The trade-off is that the Fenix E is built around health and training data, with fewer phone-style extras.
What the Fenix E does
The watch has an AMOLED display, a type of screen where each pixel lights itself, which tends to look sharp and bright. Android Police describes the build as durable and puts battery life at up to 16 days on a charge.
Fitness tracking is the main job. The watch carries a set of health and activity sensors and comes with built-in workouts that include on-screen guidance. Garmin Coach, the company’s training program, can build a plan for a major event such as a race.
For navigation, the Fenix E uses GPS, GLONASS and Galileo, three satellite positioning systems, and supports routing. It also reports on sleep and stress, and it can give coaching aimed at better sleep.
What it leaves out
Phone notifications can show up on the wrist, and the watch supports contactless payments at compatible terminals. You can store music on it for workouts, so a run without a phone is possible.
There is no speaker and no microphone, though. You cannot take or make calls from the watch, which separates it from smartwatches that act as a second screen for the phone.
What this means for buyers
At $400, the 47mm Fenix E costs half of what Garmin charges directly. Android Police notes that the model often gets less attention than other watches in the Fenix line, and calls the price low compared with Garmin watches in the same class.
The deal fits people who mainly want training plans, sleep and stress data, offline music and multi-system GPS in a watch with long battery life. Anyone who wants to answer calls from the wrist will not get that here.
Walmart has not said how long the $400 price will last, and the report covers only the 47mm case size.
